This Innovative Recycler is Making an Impact in Myanmar
Climate change is a major problem that the whole world is facing right now. A lot of people are working and finding new ways to solve this problem, and one of those people is Pon Nya. Pon Nya is the CEO and Founder of Recycle Myanmar and he created a modernized way to resolve climate change and to help the Myanmar community.
Pon Nya shared with Faces Behind ASEAN SMEs (F) about his journey in Recycle Myanmar. Let’s look at his story.
Company History
Recycle Myanmar is an organization which is trying to create a modern waste management infrastructure based on internet and mobile communication network.
2012
Just a Volunteer
Recycle Myanmar’s founder, Pon Nya, volunteered in a charity organization called “Compassion Hands Network – Pyay”. That organization helps the children who has drop out of the school and lived in and on the street.
2013
Made a Social Innovation
He invented “The Recycle Donation Bin” in order to raise fund for Organization. He and his team placed the bins around Pyay. They collected recyclable from the bins and sold them to the market for organization’s funding. It’s differed from the other. As a result, they saved not only the children, but also the environment.
2017
Founded a Social Enterprise
He founded a social enterprise in order to scale his activities to the nation-wide level in Myanmar. He just focused on recycling at the beginning stage. Then he turned not only recycling, but also waste management and circular economy after he’d got an advice from Daw Aung San Su Kyi.
2019
Built the Platforms
He built the platforms that create the opportunities for the users and pickers in recycling and waste management. Recycle Myanmar, it provides connections for all stakeholders through their mobile communications. That will strengthen circular economy approached by “waste to wealth” as well as “trash to cash.”
